Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Early screening-based intervention has been shown to significantly reduce the burden of disease. Colonoscopy and fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) are the two mainstream screening methods, but the long-term effects of the two lack head-to-head comparison evidence. To this end, the Antoni Castells team recentlyLancetPublished the milestone results of the COLONPREV trial-the world's first randomized controlled study comparing the efficacy of quantitative FIT with colonoscopy screening. The study confirmed that in the average risk population, the effects of the five rounds of 2-yearly quantitative FIT group presented non-inferiority compared to 10-yearly colonoscopy, with similar CRC morbidity and mortality in both groups.
