Traditional Chinese medicine has a long history of 5,000 years and has made great contributions to the prosperity of the Chinese nation. As an integral part of the medical and health system with Chinese characteristics, it still plays an important role in health care and disease prevention and treatment. Guided by the holistic concept, traditional Chinese medicine pursues the harmonious coexistence between man and nature, systematically grasps human health from the whole, and attaches importance to the sick people, not only human diseases; Physiologically, based on viscera, meridians, qi, blood and body fluids, it advocates the balance of yin and yang and the smooth flow of qi and blood; In treatment, individualized diagnosis and treatment characterized by syndrome differentiation and treatment, attaching importance to individual differences and the dynamic evolution of diseases; In the prescription, according to the nature and taste of the medicine, the compatibility rule of seven emotions and harmony is used, and the prescription can play a role in reducing toxicity and increasing efficacy. These characteristics are in line with the concept and direction of modern medical development, and their scientific connotation has been continuously interpreted, demonstrating the scientific and advanced nature of traditional Chinese medicine. Rhubarb is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, which has the functions of purging and attacking accumulation, clearing away heat and purging fire, detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. It is used for stagnation, constipation, vomiting blood, red eyes, sore throat, swelling and pain of gums, blood stasis, amenorrhea, burns and scalds, damp-heat jaundice, gonorrhea and other symptoms. Rhubarb can be divided into raw and cooked. The ancients believed that this product was "steep in raw use and slow in cooked use", and it was often treated by cutting, canning, roasting, simmering, stir-frying, steaming and boiling. At present, there are processing methods such as wine soaking, wine stir-frying, wine boiling, wine steaming, vinegar stir-frying, salt water stir-frying, char-frying, charcoal stir-frying and steaming. It has been confirmed by research that the diarrheogenic component of rhubarb is combined anthraquinone, and free anthraquinone has no diarrheogenic effect. The bound anthraquinone of cooked rhubarb by heating was significantly reduced, the tannin was only partially reduced, the coldness was reduced, and the laxative effect was moderated. The 2015 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia contains four processed products: rhubarb, wine rhubarb, cooked rhubarb and rhubarb charcoal.
