The Federation of Asian Organizations for Radiation Oncology (FARO) was initiated by Professor Takashi Nakano of Gunma University in Japan, Professor Makihiro Hiraoka of Kyoto University, Professor Xianshu Gao of Peking University, Professor Ramesh Bbilimagga of India and Professor Soehartati Gondhowiardjo of Indonesia. It was initially discussed by academic Organizations from 11 Asian countries (China, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand). The Chinese members are Professor Li Yexiong, Professor Gao Xianshu and Professor Yi Junlin. The meeting elected a five-member Standing Committee to be responsible for the organization and operation of the Asian Radiotherapy Alliance, including Chinese Professor Gao Xianshu. In May 2015, the first FARO Standing Committee was held in Kyoto, Japan.
