In 1866, John Jia, the second director of Boji Hospital, bought a plot of land on Renji Road, Guangzhou to rebuild Boji Hospital and continue to spread western medicine. At the same time, John Jia began to prepare schools and train students. This is the beginning of the formalization and systematization of western medicine education in China^[1]。

All kinds of books seen at present are unknown as the author of "Medical Shuo Chao Fang". For example, the National Joint Catalogue of Traditional Chinese Medicine Books in 1961 and the General Catalogue of Ancient Chinese Medicine Books from 1991 to 2007 are all "Anonymous Author". Others, such as the Dictionary of Chinese Medical Books and the Abstract of Bibliography of Ancient Chinese Medical Books, are also unknown, and the author is unknown.

In the spring of 2015, researcher Zhang Zhibin, who had just returned from the project in Germany, came to visit the author. During the chat, she talked about her and researcher Zheng Jinsheng's work on the Dictionary of Compendium of Materia Medica in Germany. She felt that Director Wen Shude, the moderator of the project, as a German scholar, was so obsessed with studying the masterpiece of Chinese medicine Compendium of Materia Medica. What reason did Chinese medical history literature scholars not make the forefront of the world in this respect? After that, I heard that they began to do the first step of basic research-Compendium of Materia Medica Film School Comparison (hereinafter referred to as Film School), and applied for the sub-item of ancient books rescue project of China College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Fan Yanni's "Research on the Translation and Introduction Activities and Influence of Traditional Chinese Medicine by Modern Missionaries" was published by Suzhou University Press in December 2017.

In 2016, the "Selected Series of Overseas Chinese Ancient Medical Books" series edited by Xiao Yongzhi, Institute of Chinese Medical History and Literature, Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences was included in the "2011-2020 National Ancient Books Collection and Publication Planning Project", and was selected as the "National Ancient Books Collection and Publication Special Funding Project" in the same year. Following the publication of "Selected Overseas Chinese Ancient Medical Books Series" (First Series) in 2017, "Selected Overseas Chinese Ancient Medical Books Series" (Second Series) was published by Beijing Science and Technology Press in January 2018.
