Esophageal cancer is a common malignant tumor of the digestive system. The incidence and death of esophageal cancer in China rank first in the world. According to the latest data from the National Cancer Center, in 2022, the incidence of esophageal cancer in China ranked 7th among all cancers, and the number of deaths ranked 5th among all cancers. The burden of disease was very serious. At present, the screening and diagnosis of esophageal cancer rely on endoscopic technology, and lack of accurate, non-invasive and convenient detection methods. Free DNA (cfDNA) in blood carries the same epigenetic information as tumor cells. Abnormal cfDNA methylation level can appear in the early stage of cancer, and it has tissue traceability, which provides a theoretical basis for the early detection method of esophageal cancer based on cfDNA methylation.
