This paper reports the intercomparison of the measurements of environmental exposure rate in Chengdu and Fulin with NE1597A scintillation ratemeters, FD-71 scintillation radiometers and FT-620 portable meters for X, γ-exposure rates. The results showed that the energy responses of NE1597A and FD-71 were comparatively poor, and the response of the contribution by cosmic rays was very low. These gamma spectra obtained from the surface soil in different areas and environments were different, and ehe dose responses of the background radiation in different areas and environments were varied. Hence, the correction of the different energy responses for measured results was difficult. NE1597A and FD-71 were unsuitable for use in the dose evaluation as well as in the survey of environmental γ-exposure rate of large area Contrarily, the FT-620 was a sensitive, portable instrument for measuring environmental γ-exposure rate with much better energy response, especially in large area.
